Quasi – 2006-04-15

April 16th, 2006

Well this was a first. Last night, for the first time ever, I ran into another taper at a show. Unfortunately for him, though, his JB3 batteries weren’t charged enough to be able to tape the set so he tore down once this was evident. It’s probably for the best since he showed up to the show pretty drunk and was having a fair amount of difficulty setting up his mics. He was a nice guy and I helped him out as best I could, though there were a few times I feared that he was going to drop his mics to the floor and ruin his gear… he was pretty drunk.

As far as the Quasi show, there isn’t much to say that hasn’t been said about those two. They’re such an amazing band. Sam Coomes has developed a great sense of the stage and Janet Weiss’ drumming is some of the best you’ll hear regardless of gender. Openers were The Can’t See and Ex-Girl. I recorded both sets and if there is any sort of demand, I can post those as well.

For the time being, here is Quasi’s set.

Thanks! I love me some Quasi and I can’t wait to download this! I also wouldn’t mind hearing the Ex-Girl set if you would be so inclined to post it.

Hey, why not post this Quasi show on Dime-a-Dozen and see if we can’t start off a Quasi torrent war to end ALL torrent wars? It could be sweet… Some guy was supposed to post their opening set for sleater-kinney in seattle last November, but he never got around to it — maybe this could jog his memory?

    Thanks again. You rule.

I would post on Dime but I’d rather just use my site and offer the downloads faster than torrenting can. Also, the userbase on Dime isn’t my favorite group of people… the vocal users at least.

If you’d like any of your taping info to be included on the covers just let me know.
    Thanks again.

    RE: the userbase on Dime

I agree completely. There are some real creeps there (like the guy who promised to post the Quasi set and never did! Bastard!).

By the way, I think I downloaded your Advantage set from Dime a while back. It shreds!

That’s rad, thanks for making the covers. You don’t have to put my info on it, though. Thanks for asking all the same.

Thank you Brian for this excellent recording of Quasi. It’s very kind of you to share this
    (lossless even), with everybody.
You are so right about some of the jerks on DAD. I would like offer you a couple of Q and not U shows that I recorded, if you would like them. email me and I will get them to ya.
    Thank you again,
    john

  11. Brian Says:

E-mail sent regarding Q+-U shows. Thanks for the offer.

  12. Toby Says:

Thanks for posting this. There was someone taping at the show the night before in Portland. One of the best shows in a long time. The Minders opened and sounded great. Quasi was awesome.

    Again, thanks for this.

I realize that you don’t want to post the show on dimeadozen, but I’d like to if you don’t object. I’ve posted a couple Quasi shows there over the years, and like to do so because it means there’s a chance that some new listener will encounter the band for the first time.

Just let me know one way or the other. I don’t want to do it without getting your permission.

  14. Brian Says:

Sure you can go ahead and put it on Dime. Put it anywhere you want as long as it’s lossless.

  15. sdc Says:

    Thanks.

Thank you so much for this Quasi show. I’m so thankful for tapers. I get to go to all kinds of shows I’d otherwise miss!
